Iran launches massive strikes against Israel, disrupts power in several areas of southern Israel

Jerusalem/Tehran, June 23 (UNI) Retaliating against the Israeli air strikes, Tehran launched a massive wave of air strikes against the Jewish nation on Monday, forcing thousands of Israelis in southern Israel to move to underground shelters, with one Iranian missile attack managing to disrupt the electric grid.

While no casualties were reported and most infrastructure is safe, strong disruptions to the electricity grid were reported in southern Israel, according to The Times of Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces, confirming the attack, said that six-seven missiles were launched from Iran in four waves over a 40-minute period.

The Israel Electric Corporation said the ballistic missile impacted near a “strategic infrastructure facility” in southern Israel caused temporary power disruptions in several towns in the area.

One more ballistic missile was fired around an hour later, again triggering sirens in the north of Israel. The projectile was intercepted successfully with no injuries, as per the IDF.

The Iranian attack came a day after the United States bombed three key nuclear sites in the country, joining Israel’s aerial campaign against Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure that began on June 13.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Monday that the United States had coordinated with Israel in launching strikes on Iranian territory and was “a partner in all crimes” committed by Israel, reports Iran International.

“There is no longer any doubt that the aggression against Iran was coordinated with the United States, and the US is a partner in all of Israel’s crimes,” Baghaei said during his weekly press briefing.

Joining in the fray, Iran's Judiciary Chief Hojjatoleslam Gholamhossein Mohseni Eje’i accused US President Donald Trump of deceit and warmongering, vowing that America's aggression against Iran would not go unanswered.

"The US President revealed his wicked nature and proved to the whole world that he is deceitful; he (Donald Trump) spoke of peace but started a war," the Judiciary Chief said.

"Undoubtedly, the aggression of the American regime against Islamic Iran will not remain unanswered, and this criminal regime will be disgraced and humiliated by the faithful and zealous people of Islamic Iran," he added.

So far, the Iranian strikes have killed a total of 24 Israeli citizens, injured hundreds, and caused some infrastructure damage. Israel’s June 13 attack led to the deaths of over 224 people, including some of its chief nuclear scientists, the COAS of the Iranian Army, a senior officer of the Air Force, and the commander of the IRGC.
