Regime change in Iran is not an objective, but is increasingly becoming a byproduct of war: Israel

Jerusalem/Washington, June 23 (UNI) The Israeli government has said that while a regime change in Tehran is not the ultimate goal in its ongoing conflict with Iran, it is increasingly becoming more and more of a ‘byproduct’ of the war.

A spokesperson for the Israeli government confirming the statement said on Monday, that while Israel’s current military operations in Iran are not aimed at toppling the Islamic Republic, a regime change could ultimately become a consequence of its actions, reports Iran International.

“Our objective in Iran is not regime change, but that may be the byproduct,” the spokesperson said as the Israeli Air Force continued to carry out intensive deep strikes in Tehran, particularly on some very sensitive strategic targets which Tel Aviv called the Iran "regime' repression infrastructure".

Some of these targets include the country’s notorious Evin Prison, which is known for its detention of all political protesters, as well as various installations of Iran’s paramilitary wing, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard.

The US on the other hand has said that a regime change in Iran is one of its priorities.
Clarifying the White House’s stance, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, echoing US President Donald Trump’s calls for a "regime change" in Iran, told Fox News on Monday "If the Iranian regime refuses to come to a peaceful, diplomatic solution — which the President is still interested in engaging in... why shouldn't the Iranian people take away the power of this incredibly violent regime?...Our posture has not changed.“

Iran’s exiled crown prince, Reza Pahlavi, said on Monday that the Islamic Republic is nearing collapse.

“Today it is clearer than ever. The Islamic Republic is collapsing,” Pahlavi told reporters at a press conference. “The regime is on its last legs.”

He added that Iran’s military was increasingly divided amid growing unrest, and said that “the people are united” against the government. “The foundations of this 46-year tyranny are shaking.”
