India deepens Pacific outreach: Jaishankar reviews major FIPIC initiatives in New York

New York, Sep 24 (UNI) External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar chaired the second Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) in New York, where India and Pacific Island Countries reviewed progress in development cooperation and discussed new initiatives in healthcare, climate action, renewable energy, disaster resilience and capacity building.
The meeting brought together senior representatives from Pacific Island Countries, including Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Palau, Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, Tonga, Vanuatu, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia, along with the Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum.
Opening the meeting, Jaishankar said India’s engagement with Pacific Island Countries has expanded through both the FIPIC framework and the India-UN Development Partnership Fund. He reaffirmed India’s support for the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, emphasizing cooperation aimed at strengthening livelihoods, building capacity and promoting sustainable development.
