Kananaskis (Canada), June 18 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday decried the 'double
standards' of some countries on terrorism and said the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 was a direct assault on the soul, identity and dignity of every Indian and entire humanity.
Addressing the 'Outreach Session' of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, the Prime Minister, in a direct attack on Pakistan but without naming the country, referred to India's neighbourhood as a breeding ground for terrorism.
'Terrorism is the enemy of humanity. It stands in opposition to all nations that uphold democratic values. Unity in the fight against terrorism is imperative. Unfortunately, our own neighborhood has become a breeding ground for terrorism. For the sake of global peace and prosperity, our thinking and our policies must be extremely clear - any country that supports terrorism must be held accountable and made to pay the price.'
Taking a dig at some countries and world organisations without identifying them the Prime Minister said there must be no place for double standards when it comes to terrorism. 'The terrorist attack that took place on April 22 was not just an assault on Pahalgam, but a direct attack on the soul, identity, and dignity of every Indian. It was an assault on all humanity.'
He asked if the world was truly serious about addressing terrorism ? 'Will we understand the true meaning of terrorism only when it knocks on our own doors ? Can those who spread terror and those who suffer from it be weighed on the same scale ? Are our global institutions at risk of losing their credibility ?
The Prime Minister was obliquely referring to the aid given by some international organisations to Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack.
Describing terrorism as the 'enemy of humanity", he said it stands in opposition to all nations that uphold democratic values.
He regretted that while on the one hand, 'we are quick to impose various sanctions based on our own preferences and interests. On the other hand, nations that openly support terrorism continue to be rewarded. I have some serious questions for those present in this room,' Prime Minister Modi said.
He warned that if decisive action was not taken against terrorism now, 'history would never forgive us. Turning a blind eye towards terrorism for the sake of vested interests, or extending support to terror or terrorists, is a betrayal of all humanity.'
Speaking on ‘Energy Security: diversification, technology and infrastructure to ensure access and affordability in a changing world', the Prime Minister said energy security was among the leading challenges facing future generations.
Elaborating on India’s commitment to inclusive growth, he noted that availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability were the principles that underpinned India’s approach to energy security.
He emphasised that even though India is the fastest growing major economy in the world, it had successfully met its Paris commitments ahead of time.
Highlighting India’s commitment to a sustainable and green future, he said India has undertaken several global initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance, Mission LiFE and One Sun- One World- One Grid, and called upon the international community to further strengthen them.
