Lavrov spread 'lies and false narratives' at G20 meeting, says EU foreign policy chief Kallas

Atlanta, Nov 1 (UNI) European union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has accused Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of presenting "a lot of lies" and "false narratives" during a meeting of G20 foreign ministers in Atlanta, Georgia.
Foreign ministers of the world's major economies met on Friday and Saturday for discussions ahead of the G20 leaders' summit scheduled for December.
Sharp differences emerged during Friday's plenary session, hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with discussions largely focused on the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
European officials pushed back against Lavrov's remarks describing it as "provocative" as Kallas said Lavrov has put "forward a lot of lies, a lot of false narratives."
Lavrov, addressing a press conference following the discussions, criticised European participants over what he described as their "arrogant boycott", apparently referring to the refusal of several officials to join a group photograph with him.
He also praised the Trump administration for its willingness to engage with Moscow.
Earlier, Lavrov has questioned Poland's invitation to the G20 meeting, arguing that Warsaw's participation "contributes nothing" and violates diplomatic principles.
However, Rubio expressed support for Poland's full membership of the grouping in his public remarks following the meeting.
"President Trump believes very strongly that Poland deserves a seat at this table of global leaders, and we very much hope to see them, and other strong nations on the rise, invited back next year," Rubio said.
The exchanges highlighted continuing divisions among major powers over the Ukraine conflict, international diplomacy and the composition of the G20 grouping.UNI XC AAB
