Saudi Arabia intercepts and destroys cruise missile over Medina amid tensions with Houthis

Medina, Oct 15 (UNI) The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile over Saudi Arabia’s Medina region, amid a series of missile and drone attacks targeting the kingdom.
Coalition spokesperson Maj Gen Turki al-Maliki announced the interception on Thursday in a statement on X, but did not identify the missile’s origin or intended target. No information was provided on possible casualties or damage.
However, Yemen’s Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree denied reports that the militia had launched any attacks against Saudi Arabia that day.
“The Yemeni Armed Forces confirm that they have not carried out any operation targeting Saudi territory today,” Saree said.
Earlier on Thursday, Saudi authorities issued warnings of potential threats in the southern regions of Najran and Jazan before announcing that the danger had passed. The coalition also said it had intercepted and destroyed a drone over the kingdom’s Eastern Province.
The interception comes post the destruction of another ballistic missile headed towards Riyadh on Wednesday. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the missile was launched by the Houthis, with falling debris injuring a resident and causing minor damage to a house and a vehicle.
Saudi Arabia has faced repeated missile and drone attacks amid renewed fighting in Yemen. Recent strikes have targeted airports and energy facilities.
On September 29, the coalition accused the Houthis of launching a drone attack on the Taibah electricity distribution station in Medina. The strike disabled a transformer but did not disrupt the wider electricity grid, al-Maliki said. The facility supplies power to the Prophet’s Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government against the Houthis since 2015. The group has controlled the capital, Sanaa, and several other provinces since 2014.
