Serbian President Vučić resigns after two-years of student protests in bid to become PM in next election

Belgrade, Sep 28 (UNI) Serbia's President Aleksandar Vučić has resigned from his post in a bid to assume premiership of the nation after nearly two years of student-led protests ahead of the country's October 25 parliamentary election.
Vučić, who was serving his second and final five-year presidential period, submitted his resignation on Sunday, several months before his term was set to expire. He is constitutionally barred from seeking a third term and has been nominated by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) as its candidate for prime minister.
"I am resigning the duty of the president of the republic," Vučić said as he read out his resignation.
