Pune, June 19 (UNI) Nine people, including two children, were killed and six others were injured in a collision between a speeding car and a stationary pick-up truck on the Jejuri-Morgaon Road in Pune district, said police today.
The accident took place last night when a speeding car hit a tempo on the Jejuri-Morgaon road.
Four of the injured are in critical condition, said police.
The Prime Minister's Office expressed condolences on the accident, posting on X:
"Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon."
The PMO announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from the PM's Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000 each.
According to Pune Rural Police, a pickup tempo had stopped near Shriram Dhaba near Kirloskar Company on the Jejuri-Morgaon road. The work of unloading goods from the tempo was in progress. Two men were unloading the goods. At the time, a speeding car going from Pune to Morgaon hit the tempo, resulting in the death of nine persons, including two children and a woman.
The dhaba operator and workers informed the police about the accident. The injured were immediately admitted to a private hospital, police said.
