Odisha: 21-yr-old youth held for raping 50-yr-old yoga instructor

Kendrapara, June 20 (UNI) Kendrapara Sadar police have arrested a 21-year-old youth for allegedly raping and injuring a 50-year-old yoga instructor with a sharp weapon.
According to the police, the accused was apprehended within 24 hours of the incident.
The accused, identified as Dharmendra Malik, allegedly broke into the house of the woman—who is a yoga instructor—at Mundala village under the Sadar police limits on Wednesday late night.
He reportedly threatened her with a sharp weapon before raping her, said Suvendu Kumar Sahoo, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Kendrapara Sadar police station.
The victim managed to remove the mask from the accused’s face and shouted for help. Following the incident, the accused fled the scene and reportedly threatened the woman with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.
The severely injured yoga instructor was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.
The matter came to light on Thursday when the victim lodged a formal complaint at the Sadar police station.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 64(2)(m), 331(4), 115(2), 118(1), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and subsequently arrested the accused.
Both the victim and the accused will be sent for medical examination today, and the accused will be produced before the local court, the IIC added.
