Odisha Police to deploy 25-plus police platoons in Puri for Kartika brata security

Kendrapada, Oct 23 (UNI) Odisha Police will deploy more than 25 platoons of personnel across Puri to ensure the safety and security of devotees during the upcoming Kartika Brata, with special arrangements in place for Habisyalis observing the month-long religious ritual from October 26 to November 24.
Five platoons will be deployed exclusively at three designated Habisyali accommodation centres to provide round-the-clock security, while more than 20 additional platoons will reinforce security across the pilgrim town, including the Shree Jagannath Temple and other sensitive locations.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Central Range, Satyajit Naik, announced the arrangements after visiting Puri on Friday to review security preparedness ahead of the expected influx of Habisyalis and other pilgrims.
Accompanied by Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh, the IGP inspected the designated accommodation centres and assessed the preparedness of the district police and other agencies involved in managing the annual religious gathering.
The dedicated deployment at the Habisyali centres will focus on round-the-clock surveillance, preventing untoward incidents and ensuring the safe movement of devotees throughout their stay, Naik said.
Apart from security at the accommodation centres, police will intensify crowd management measures across Puri, particularly around the Shree Jagannath Temple and other key locations likely to witness a large gathering of pilgrims. Arrangements are also being strengthened to streamline vehicular movement, prevent congestion and facilitate the smooth movement of devotees.
Control room operations will be reinforced to ensure real-time coordination among security personnel and enable a swift response to emergencies.
During the inspection, the IGP stressed the need for heightened vigilance, effective deployment of personnel and seamless coordination among the various security agencies. He also emphasised the importance of maintaining public order and preventing congestion at sensitive locations during the Kartika Brata period.
Puri SP Prateek Singh and the district police team are overseeing the implementation of the security plan to ensure that all arrangements are in place before the arrival of devotees.
The comprehensive security measures are aimed at ensuring a safe, peaceful and orderly Kartika Brata, allowing Habisyalis and other pilgrims to perform their religious observances without disruption.
