Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 athletics: Neeraj will aim to keep the momentum going

Ostrava(Czech Republic), Jun 24 (UNI) India's ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who is fresh from his Paris Diamond League win will be aiming be keep the winning momentum going as he competes in the Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 athletics competition on Tuesday.

Chopra, who is the reigning javelin throw world champion will be looking for another win today before his title defence in September.

Starting in 1961, the Golden Spike is a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold label meet, in effect being one of the most prestigious global athletics competitions in the world.

Neeraj Chopra was scheduled to compete at the event both in 2023 and 2024 but had to withdraw on each occasion due to injury.

Neeraj is keen to compete in the competitoin is because he will be competing on the home turf of his new coach, legendery javelin thrower Jan Železný. Železný is a world record holder, who also plays a key role in organising the Golden Spike.

A total of nine athletes will feature in the Javelin event- Jan Výška, Martin Konečný and Alexandr Čača of Czech Republic, Marc Anthony Minichiello from the United States, South Africa's Douw Smit, Finland's Toni Keränen, Germany's Thomas Röhler and Grenada's Anderson Peters.

Neeraj is likely to face stiff competition from two-time world champion and Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Anderson Peters and Rio Olympics gold medallist Thomas Röhler.

After Ostrava, Neeraj is scheduled to compete at the NC Classic in Bengaluru, scheduled on July 5.
