Passing Out Parade of fifth Agniveer batch held

Bengaluru, June 5 (UNI) The iconic Govindaswamy Drill Square at the Madras Engineer Group & Centre (MEG & Centre) came alive with martial splendour and patriotic fervour on Thursday as it hosted the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the fifth batch of Agniveers.
A total of 568 Agniveers marked the culmination of their rigorous training in a grand ceremonial event that symbolised their transition into the Indian Army, even as Operation Sindoor continues across operational theatres.
The parade reflected the discipline, valour and high standards of the Madras Sappers, with the Agniveers dressed in ceremonial attire – including blue ‘Dooptas’, gold and maroon 'jari' bands, and white spats – marching in unison to the rousing tunes of the military band. Their flawless drill movements showcased the excellence of the training imparted at the MEG & Centre.
Brigadier Ajay Singh Thakur, Commandant, MEG & Centre, reviewed the parade and congratulated the Agniveers on their exemplary display of drill and dedication. In his address, he exhorted the young soldiers to uphold the values of the Indian Army and serve the nation with courage, integrity and honour.
One of the most poignant moments of the event was the presentation of the ‘Gaurav Padak’ to the proud parents of the Agniveers. In an emotional gesture, parents were invited to adorn their sons with the insignia of ‘Thambi Sapper’, marking the formal induction of the recruits into the ranks of the Indian Army.
Elaborate arrangements were made by the Centre to accommodate and facilitate the families of the Agniveers, including their reception, stay and transportation. The event concluded with interactions between veterans, senior officers and the families, who shared in the pride and joy of the newly minted soldiers.
The Passing Out Parade stood as a solemn affirmation of the Indian Army’s ethos — a celebration of commitment, resilience, and the timeless spirit of service to the nation.
