Pedro nets brace as Flamengo routs Corinthians in Brazil's Serie A

Rio De Janeiro, Apr 28 (UNI) Striker Pedro scored twice as Flamengo rose to the top of Brazil's Serie A standings with a 4-0 home win over Corinthians.

Pedro made it 3-0, sweeping a first-time effort into the net after intercepting a stray pass from goalkeeper Hugo Souza. Former Fiorentina forward Pedro put the result beyond doubt from the penalty spot following Igor Coronado's ugly challenge on De Arrascaeta.
"I'm still getting back to full fitness, but so far my comeback is going very well," said Pedro, who returned earlier this month after a seven-month layoff with a knee injury.
"This is only my fifth game back and tonight showed that I'm on the right track. I hope to be able to continue this level along with the rest of my teammates."
Flamengo now has 14 points from six games, a point ahead of second-placed Palmeiras, while Corinthians is 12th, seven points off the pace.
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Sunday, Bragantino won 2-1 at Santos, Cruzeiro prevailed
1-0 at home to Vasco da Gama, Bahia won 1-0 at Palmeiras and Vitoria was held to a 1-1 home
draw by Gremio.
