Mumbai April 17 (UNI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has supported the New Education Policy, stressing that “everyone in Maharashtra should know Marathi.”
“Similarly, Hindi is an option to create a link in the country. Therefore, people should also learn Hindi as the link language,” said Fadnavis.
The Chief Minister said the ruling Maha Yuti has already implemented the New Education Policy. “The state government has not taken any new decision in that direction. Everyone in Maharashtra should know Marathi. That’s our insistence. Hindi is a language that can be the link language in the country,” Fadnavis said.
The Chief Minister further said if anyone wanted to learn English, or any other language, there is no prohibition. “However, everyone should know Marathi. The languages of our country should also be known,” he said.
The Central government is of the opinion that there should be one language of communication in our country, therefore, an effort has been made to learn Hindi, he added.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has prepared two state curriculum plans -- one at the foundation level and another for the school level. A steering committee headed by the Minister of School Education has approved both these plans, Fadnavis said.
