PJR flyover inaugurated in Gachibowli: CM Revanth vows transformational urban development for Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 28 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday evening inaugurated the PJR flyover at Gachibowli, Gachibowli, marking a major addition to the city’s urban infrastructure.
The newly opened six-lane flyover, built at a cost of Rs 182.72 crore under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), spans 1.2 km in length and 24 meters in width. It stands as a third-level elevated structure above two existing flyovers at the Gachibowli junction, making it a unique three-tier road facility in Hyderabad.
Addressing a public meeting after the inauguration, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy paid rich tributes to late Congress leader P Janardhan Reddy (PJR), recalling his relentless efforts to protect the rights of migrants and workers in Hyderabad.

He said PJR stood by the people during difficult times, fought for their access to clean drinking water, and played a pivotal role in ensuring the high-tech city remained in Hyderabad instead of shifting to Maharashtra.
The Chief Minister described PJR’s home as a “Janata Garage,” symbolising his lifelong commitment to serving the common people.
Revanth Reddy said that PJR’s legacy continues to guide the city’s development and emphasised that 65 per cent of Telangana’s income comes from Hyderabad. He added that Hyderabad should not compete with cities like Delhi, Chennai, or Mumbai, but with global hubs like New York, Tokyo, and Singapore.
The Chief Minister highlighted the challenges posed by urban pollution, traffic, and flooding in other Indian metros and said Hyderabad must learn from their shortcomings to chart a sustainable and modern urban future.
He announced that the government is implementing the Telangana Rising 2047 plan to prepare the city for the next 100 years. Under this vision, the state is investing in large-scale infrastructure projects such as flyovers, underpasses, and wide roads.

The CM said 3,000 electric buses will be introduced in Hyderabad, and diesel buses will be moved to rural areas to control pollution. He added that full tax exemptions are being provided for electric vehicles and CNG autos, and restrictions on the purchase of autos are being lifted to promote cleaner transport.
Revanth Reddy accused political opponents of creating hurdles in development under the guise of politics. He alleged that certain groups obstructed the arrival of IT companies in Gachibowli, depriving lakhs of employment opportunities. He asserted that the state government will take legal measures to recover valuable lands in Gachibowli and use them for development and job creation.

He also expressed concern over increasing urban encroachments and said that the government is using advanced equipment like hydra cranes to remove them. He cited the demolition of illegal structures such as the N Convention Centre, and appreciated actor Nagarjuna for voluntarily handing over two acres of land for public use.
The Chief Minister announced the development of Bathukamma Kunta, which was reportedly encroached upon for the past 40 years, and confirmed that a vision document outlining Hyderabad’s long-term development goals will be released by December 9.
He said the proposed Bharat Future City, to be developed on 30,000 acres, will put Hyderabad on the global map. He also hinted at the possible bifurcation of Serilingampalli into four assembly constituencies by 2029 due to its rapid growth.
Revanth Reddy credited leaders like Manmohan Singh and Jaipal Reddy for bringing the Metro rail to Hyderabad and praised PV Narasimha Rao for laying the foundation of the IT revolution.
He criticised the Centre for its alleged neglect of Hyderabad's development, questioning why cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, and Gujarat received metro and bullet train projects, while Hyderabad’s Musi Riverfront remains underfunded. He said the Centre extended support to rivers like Yamuna and Ganga, but not to Musi, and demanded to know why such discrimination was being shown towards Telangana.
He revealed that he had personally approached Union Minister Kishan Reddy to seek cooperation on various infrastructure projects, and said that he will soon meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Hyderabad to request approvals for the Metro Phase II, Regional Ring Road (RR R), and the Musi Riverfront project.
He lamented that Telangana has slipped to ninth place in terms of metro rail development and called on people to recognize who is obstructing progress and who is working for growth.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to identify a prominent location for installing a statue of PJR, whom he hailed as a champion of the poor.
PJR’s daughter Vijaya Reddy and other family members expressed their gratitude to CM Revanth Reddy for naming the Gachibowli flyover after the late leader.

The event was attended by Ministers D Sridhar Babu, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, CM Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Serilingampalli MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, Legislative Council Chief Whip Mahender Reddy, GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose Karnan, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Ajith Reddy, and other senior officials.
