PM Modi to inaugurate 10th India Mobile Congress as India targets global leadership in next-gen technology

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi on Thursday, October 8, as India’s flagship telecommunications and digital technology exhibition enters its second decade amid an accelerating push to establish the country as a global hub for next-generation connectivity and technology-led growth.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi will inaugurate the event at around 10 am and address the gathering. The four-day IMC 2026, jointly organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), began on October 7 and will continue until October 10.
The theme of this year’s Congress is “Scale Without Boundaries”, reflecting India’s expanding ambitions in digital innovation, next-generation connectivity and technology-driven economic development. The event is bringing together policymakers, global technology companies, telecom and industry leaders, startups, investors, researchers and innovators to explore emerging opportunities across the rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.
IMC 2026 is structured around four key pillars — “Srishti: Building the Future”, “Samvardhan: Fueling Growth”, “Sashakt: Expanding Opportunities” and “Suraksha: Strengthening Trust”. Together, the four pillars underline the Congress’s emphasis on building next-generation digital infrastructure, accelerating technology-led economic growth, widening inclusive access and creating secure, resilient and trusted digital ecosystems.
The 2026 edition will showcase developments across nine established anchor sectors, including 5G and 6G, next-generation AI networks, semiconductors, non-terrestrial networks, cyber security, quantum communication, enterprise transformation, circular economy and ESG, and electronics manufacturing.
The Congress is also expanding its focus to four emerging domains — smart mobility, stadium experiences, industrial robotics and transport technology — highlighting the growing convergence of telecommunications with artificial intelligence, automation, mobility and advanced technology platforms.
The organisers expect more than 1.5 lakh visitors from over 100 countries, with participation from more than 500 partners and exhibitors, over 600 startups and more than 900 thought leaders. The event will feature more than 2,000 technology use cases and over 120 sessions covering developments across the digital and technology landscape.
The 10th edition comes against the backdrop of India’s rapid expansion of digital infrastructure and the government’s growing emphasis on developing indigenous technological capabilities. Telecommunications and digital technologies are increasingly being positioned not merely as tools for connectivity but as critical enablers of economic growth, public service delivery, manufacturing, innovation and national security.
Over the past decade, the India Mobile Congress has evolved into a major platform for showcasing India’s technological capabilities and facilitating collaboration among the government, telecom operators, technology companies, startups, investors and global industry players. Its expanded sectoral focus this year reflects the increasing role of advanced connectivity and digital technologies across industries, extending well beyond traditional telecommunications.
From artificial intelligence and 6G to semiconductors, quantum communication, robotics and smart mobility, IMC 2026 is expected to provide a showcase of technologies that could shape the next phase of India’s digital and industrial transformation.
Modi’s inaugural address is expected to set the tone for the four-day Congress, with the focus on scaling India’s digital ambitions, expanding affordable and inclusive access, strengthening technological resilience and deepening global technology partnerships as the country seeks a larger role in the emerging global digital economy.
