In Karnal, the Detective Unit CIA-3, led by Inspector Ajay and comprising ASI Rajesh Kumar's team, arrested three members of a nomadic inter-state gang on September 30 from GT Road near Nilokheri Bus Stand, the spokesman said.
The case dates back to September 12, when Chameli Devi, wife of Lachhman Das and resident of Pingli village, lodged a complaint at Thana Shahar Karnal. She alleged that while returning from a jeweller's shop in Chaura Bazar around noon, a woman and a youth approached her near Gur Mandi and engaged her in conversation. The accused allegedly made her inhale an intoxicating substance and took her towards a lane near a petrol pump beyond Kalandri Gate, where they removed her one-tola gold Om pendant, both gold earrings, and two silver rings from her hand before fleeing.
Following the complaint, police registered FIR No. 669 on September 12 under relevant sections and launched a manhunt.
The arrested accused were identified as Panna Lal alias Paniya, son of Amar Singh, resident of JJ Colony, Uttam Nagar, Delhi; Vijay, son of Ram Lal, resident of Raghubir Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Delhi; and Walia, son of Prahlad, resident of Anand Parvat Camp, Delhi. All three were leading a nomadic life at the time of arrest, the spokesman said.
During a lawful search, police recovered Rs 1,500 in cash from Vijay, Rs 2,000 from Walia, and a Vivo mobile phone from Panna Lal.
The accused were produced in court. While Vijay and Walia were remanded to judicial custody at the district jail, Panna Lal was taken on a four-day police remand for intensive interrogation regarding the recovery of the stolen jewellery, the identification of other accomplices, and the linkage to similar crimes, the spokesman added.
In a parallel operation in Hisar, police arrested two accused for stealing government-rationed wheat from a depot, acting on the directions of SP Siddhant Jain, IPS.
