Police discriminating against a particular community in Mumbai: SP's Abu Azmi

Mumbai, May 31 (UNI) Maharashtra Samajwadi Party president and MLA Abu Asim Azmi on Saturday claimed that police are forcibly removing loudspeakers from mosques in Mumbai which is a violation of the Bombay High Court's decision and it is also discriminative against a particular community as the court directive is not specifically for mosques but applies to all religions and social activities.
Addressing a press conference here, he said that we respect the court directive and will follow it but in the name of the court decision BJP leader Kirit Somaiya is targeting a community and their places of worship while pressuring police to take action.
He alleged that Somaiya is trying to "hatch a conspiracy" to divide Hindus and Muslims and spread religious hatred and demanded that police should take action against him.
Abu Azmi said that local Hindus have no objection to the call from the mosques and the loudspeaker of the mosques, but some miscreants are giving it a communal colour.
It may be recalled that Somaiya has begun a campaign for removal of illegal loudspeakers from certain mosques, stating that they contribute to noise pollution.
