Policeman killed, 4 injured in militant attack in NW Pak

Islamabad, Apr 18 (UNI) A policeman was killed and four others, including an officer, were injured in a militant attack on police personnel in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday morning, police sources said.
The incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. local time (0420 GMT) in the Dera Ismail Khan district when a Station House Officer (SHO) was traveling in a private vehicle along with police personnel to appear as witnesses in a terrorism-related court case, the sources told Xinhua.
"Unidentified assailants opened fire on the vehicle, killing one policeman on the spot and injuring the SHO along with three other cops before fleeing the scene," the sources added.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
Dera Ismail Khan has witnessed sporadic militant violence in recent years, often targeting security forces and government personnel.
