Power employees, engineers protest in Panchkula against privatisation, smart-meter decisions

Panchkula, Oct 22 (UNI) Electricity employees and engineers staged a protest against the government in Panchkula on Thursday, demanding the withdrawal of moves towards the privatisation of power distribution and decisions related to smart meters.
The protest, held under the banner of the Haryana Bijli Karamchari Evam Engineers Sanyukt Sangharsh Morcha, was led by unit president Anil Kumar.
Representatives of the HSEB Workers Union, Haryana Power Engineers Association and other employee organisations participated.
Ramesh Kumar, zonal organiser of the HSEB Workers Union, said steps to involve private companies in electricity distribution were against the interests of employees, consumers and farmers.
