Pranavi-led Indian women's golf team wins historic Asian Games silver

Kasugai (Japan), Oct 3 (UNI) The Indian women's golf team of Pranavi Urs, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar secured a historic silver medal in the team event at the Asian Games here on Saturday, with Pranavi's golden individual performance adding another landmark to India's campaign.
The Indian trio finished with a combined score of 14-under 546, with the two best individual scores counting towards the team total. China claimed the gold with 22-under 538.
The silver marked India's first-ever women's team medal in golf at the Asian Games and added to a landmark day for Indian women's golf.
Pranavi, 23, completed a memorable double by winning the individual gold with a four-round total of 15-under 265. She became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games golf gold, improving on Aditi's individual silver at the previous edition.
The Mysuru golfer began the final round with a three-stroke advantage but suffered a triple bogey on the par-four third hole, briefly dropping out of the gold-medal position.
She responded strongly, making birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes before holding her nerve on the closing stretch. Pranavi eventually finished one stroke ahead of China's Yin Ruoning, who took silver, while Singapore's Shannon Tan claimed bronze.
Aditi, the individual silver medallist at the previous Asian Games, produced India's other counting score with a final-round 67 to finish 14th individually at two-over 282. She made five consecutive birdies during her closing round despite a double bogey and a bogey.
Diksha shot 77 in the final round and finished 23rd individually at 12-over 300.
Pranavi's gold and the team's silver gave India two medals from the women's golf competition and underlined the country's growing strength in the discipline.
The team medal was particularly significant as it came after India had narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the women's team event at the previous Asian Games.
