Publish Keezhadi excavation report without edits, anything less is sabotage of historical truths : DMK MP urges PM

Chennai, June 14 (UNI) Re-elected for a second successive term, DMK Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson
on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately publish the Keezhadi excavation report without edits as anything less would mean sabotage of historical truths and false propaganda against Tamil culture.
Condoning the delay, he said it was borne out of ideological opposition to Tamil pride and deliberately causes to prevent recognition of our heritage.
The Union Government is trying to suppress Keeladi because it challenges their narratives and attempts to silence science, truth, and Tamil pride will not succeed, he said.
In a letter to Mr Modi, Mr Wilson, a senior DMK Counsel, said Keeladi is more than just mud and pottery; it serves as a mirror reflecting a 3,000-year-old Tamil civilization that was urban, literate,
and thriving long before the myths of the Ganges Valley.
He said when history speaks through empirical evidence, no government or political party could silence it and that Keeladi will rise and with it, Tamil pride.
In January 2025, Chief Minister M K Stalin declared that “The Iron Age began in the Tamil landscape,” citing Keeladi as evidence of Tamil Nadu’s ancient heritage. "
This is precisely why the RSS ideologically driven BJP-Union Government seems determined to
bury its significance, he charged.
Stating that excavations at Keeladi began in 2015 and were supported by rigorous scientific research, Mr Wilson said by January 2023, archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna submitted a comprehensive 982-page final report.
"Yet, as of 2025, this report has not been made public. Why? Because it challenges the narrative
set forth by the RSS ideologically driven BJP Union Government", he noted.
The RS MP said the Union Government claims that “scientific vetting” takes time, but where was
this delay for other archaeological sites that align with their favored cultural narrative?
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) asserts that the archaeologist has not made the “corrections” they suggested. However, Amarnath Ramakrishna has defended his findings,
bolstered by data, yet his reply continues to go unanswered, Mr Wilson pointed out.
If the ASI’s delay is genuine, they should publish the timeline, replies, and any pending queries,
he said, adding "Let India judge whether this is incompetence or cultural censorship."
If the Union Government truly respects Tamil Nadu, Tamil culture and federalism, Keeladi would
be celebrated as a point of pride for India. Instead, they obstruct, stall, and discredit it because it demonstrates that the Tamil region had writing, industry, and culture far before others in the country, he added.
"The delay is borne out of ideological opposition to Tamil pride and deliberately causes to prevent recognition of our heritage", he said.
Accusing the Union Government of trying to suppress Keeladi because it challenges their narratives, Mr Wilson said nevertheless, attempting to silence science, truth, and Tamil pride will not succeed.
He said Mr Stalin has rightly called out the Union Government’s delay, exposed their doublespeak, and upheld Keeladi as undeniable proof of Tamil antiquity.
"When history speaks through empirical evidence, no government or political party can silence it. Keeladi will rise—and with it, Tamil pride", he added.
"I urge the Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi to publish the full Keeladi report immediately without edits. Anything less is sabotage of historical truths and false propaganda against Tamil culture. #KeeladiNow #ReleaseKeeladiReport #TransparencyNow #ReleaseTheReport",
Mr Wilson said.
Mr Stalin had flayed the Union government for seeking more details to further scientifically validate the Keezhadi excavations that have highlighted the antiquity of Tamils and charged the BJP-RSS
with promoting the mythical Saraswati civilisation.
In a post on X, condemning the Centre for questioning the scientifically validated Keezhadi archaeological findings, Mr Stalin said even when confronted with carbon-dated artefacts and Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) reports from International Laboratories on the Keezhadi excavations, they continue to demand “more proof.”
"And here is the "Proof". But on the contrary, despite strong opposition from respected historians
and archaeologists, the BJP continues to promote the mythical Sarasvati Civilisation",he said.
"They do so without credible evidence, while dismissing the rigorously proven antiquity of Tamil culture.", the Chief Minister said.
"When it comes to Keezhadi and the enduring truth of Tamil heritage, the BJP-RSS ecosystem recoils — not because evidence is lacking, but because the truth does not serve their script", he charged.
"We fought for centuries to unearth our history. They fight every day to erase it. The world is watching. So is time", he added.
