Punjab: ASI trapped in VB net

Hoshiarpur, May 28 (UNI) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Wednesday arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Kuldeep Singh while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant.
The ASI was posted at the Police Station, Hariana, in Hoshiarpur district.
According to an official spokesperson, the action was taken following a complaint filed by Robin Kumar, a resident of village Ghugyal in Hoshiarpur district. The complainant alleged that a police case had been registered against him at the said police station, with ASI Kuldeep Singh assigned as the investigating officer.
However, prior to the registration of the FIR (first information report), the said ASI allegedly colluded with the opposing party to file a counter-case against the complainant, his mother, and other family members.
Robin further alleged that ASI Kuldeep Singh threatened to falsely implicate his mother in a gold chain theft case unless a bribe of Rs 50,000 was paid.
Following negotiations, the demand was settled at Rs 30,000.
The complainant claimed to have already paid Rs 10,000 in the first instalment and Rs 5,000 in the second.
He also recorded the ASI demanding the remaining amount on his mobile phone.
After verifying the complaint, the VB laid a trap and caught red-handed ASI Singh while accepting the remaining Rs 15,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case has been registered against the accused at the VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range, and further investigation is underway.
