Punjab CIA in-charge, 2 ASIs held in bribery case

Phagwara, May 23 (UNI) The Punjab Police have arrested almost the entire team of the Crime investigation Agency (CIA) in Phagwara, including CIA in-charge Bisman Singh Mahi, ASI Nirmal Kumar, ASI Jaswinder Singh and constable Jagroop Singh.
The arrests took place in the early hours of Friday in a bribery case.
DIG Jalandhar range Naveen Singla said the accused accepted a bribe of around Rs 2.5 lakh to release an alleged smuggler, Hani, from their custody.
Singla said that corruption was unacceptable at all levels. Large-scale investigation was under way to expose and book accomplices in the police department, he added.
The accused in the bribery case would be medically examined and would be produced before a judicial magistrate Phagwara. A formal case has been registered in Sadar Police Phagwara, said DIG Singla.

Punjab CM reiterates zero tolerance policy against corruption

Chandigarh, May 23 (UNI) After the arrest of Jalandhar Central AAP MLA Raman Arora in an alleged corruption case, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann reiterated his government's zero tolerance policy against corruption. CM Mann said that no officer or politician, however affluent he or she may be, if found involved in corruption will be spared.
