Radheshyam MLA honours Manipuri women at Mother's Day event organised by Assam Rifles

Imphal, May 12 (UNI) Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, MLA, lauded the efforts of Assam Rifles and Heirok Apunba Club, for recognising the foundational role of mothers in Manipuri society, as part of the celebration of Mother’s Day observed on Monday at Heirok, Thoubal district.
He described the outreach done by the two organisations for Mothers as a timely and much-needed act of service and solidarity.
Thokchom Radheshyam Singh and Brigadier Gourav Kapoor took part in a meaningful celebration of Mother’s Day on Monday at Heirok, Thoubal district, organised by 28 Sector Assam Rifles and 46 Assam Rifles and Heirok Apunba Club.
The organisers felicitated 50 Meira Paibis (local women torchbearers) with Lengyan (traditional scarf).
A poignant moment during the programme was the observance of a one-minute silence in memory of the brave sons of Manipur, including Deepak of the BSF and Ibotombi of the CRPF, who laid down their lives during the present India–Pakistan conflict.
A medical camp was organised which was one of the largest healthcare outreach efforts in Heirok, especially significant in the context of both pre- and post-conflict periods.
A team of specialist doctors from Medilane, including pediatricians, dermatologists, general physicians, and eye specialists, joined medical officers from Assam Rifles in delivering comprehensive healthcare services. Free consultations, child health check-ups, skin and eye screenings, and distribution of essential medicines were provided to hundreds of residents.
Assam Rifles representatives reiterated their commitment to community outreach, emphasising that such programmes are aimed at fostering trust, unity, and mutual support among the people of Manipur.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles also celebrated Mother’s Day with a series of events across Tengnoupal, Kakching, Chandel and Churachandpur districts.
A multiple community outreach initiative was held across Sehlon, Aivomjang, Joupi, and Khongjol villages at Chandel district.
Activities included motivational seminars, awareness campaigns, and poster drives celebrating the role of mothers in society.
Medical camps were conducted at Aivomjang and Joupi, offering health consultations primarily for women and the elderly. In Khongjol, essential items such as blankets were distributed to 80 persons.
In Thoubal District, Assam Rifles celebrated Mother’s Day with prominent Meira Paibis during a special event at the Company Operating Base in Thoubal.

In Tengnoupal district, a vibrant celebration was held at Mission Veng, bringing together 40 mothers and six children from local villages. The event featured a traditional fashion show, a musical chair competition and an interactive health session led by the Regimental Medical Officer.
In Kakching, Assam Rifles celebrated Mother's Day with a large-scale tree plantation drive at Angangching Eco Park under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.
The event was held in collaboration with noted environmentalist Surjit and the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Thoubal.
Participants were encouraged to plant saplings in honor of their mothers, symbolising the strength, nurturing spirit and enduring legacy of motherhood.

The drive saw participation from over 150 individuals, including Meira Paibis, youth volunteers, school children, civil society members and Forest Department officials. The DFO praised the initiative, stressing the importance of community-led environmental conservation and pledging sustained support for similar efforts.

Following the plantation, a cleanliness drive was organised around the eco park, reinforcing the importance of hygiene and ecological responsibility. An interactive session was also conducted where local women shared heartfelt stories and messages on the emotional and cultural significance of motherhood, as well as their role in promoting sustainable living.
