Rajasthan: 8 electrocuted in Jhunjhunu as concrete mixture machine catches current from 11000V high tension line

Jaipur, Nov 2 (UNI) At least eight people were electrocuted and five others injured after a concrete mixer machine they were using to lay a private road, came into contact with an overhead 11,000-volt high-tension line at Chhapoli in the Udaipurwati area of Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district on Monday.
According to preliminary reports, District Collector Arun Garg said the victims were engaged in laying a road being constructed privately by local villagers through community contributions, without the involvement or knowledge of the government.
Administrative and police officials rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Udaipurwati Hospital. A hospital spokesperson said two of the injured, who sustained serious burn injuries, were referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur.
Meanwhile, local residents gathered at the site and demanded compensation for the families of the deceased, along with government jobs for one member of each bereaved family.
Garg said the road was being laid on prohibited forest land without the requisite government approval. However, he assured that the administration would extend all possible assistance and relief to the victims and their families. Most of those affected belong to economically weaker sections, he added.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma spoke to the District Collector over the phone to obtain a first-hand account of the incident. He directed the administration to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured and provide necessary assistance to the bereaved families.
The Chief Minister also expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
