Rajnath Singh to launch first Fleet Support Ship, lay keel of fifth vessel at Visakhapatnam

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will launch the Indian Navy’s first Fleet Support Ship (FSS-1), lay the keel of the fifth vessel in the series and inaugurate an upgraded slipway and a 300-tonne Goliath crane at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, on Tuesday.
The events will mark a significant step in expanding India’s indigenous shipbuilding capacity and strengthening the infrastructure available for construction of large naval platforms.
The upgraded Slipway-4, equipped with an extended length and enhanced load-bearing capacity, along with the 300-tonne Goliath crane, will enable HSL to build and launch vessels of up to 45,000 deadweight tonnes (DWT). The facility is expected to enhance the shipyard’s ability to undertake the construction of larger and more complex vessels.
