Ram Vilas Paswan was a fierce warrior for social justice: Yogi

Lucknow, Oct 8 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday paid tribute to former union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, describing him as a vocal public leader and a strong voice for Dalits and the deprived sections of society.
Speaking at a programme organised in Sushant Golf City on the sixth death anniversary of Paswan, Yogi said the late leader dedicated his life to social justice and in to fulfilling the vision of Dr BR Ambedkar. He said Paswan played an important role in awakening social consciousness and giving a new direction to the struggle for social justice.
Governor Anandi Ben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered floral tributes to Paswan's portrait at the event, where a bhajan programme was also organised.
Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan, along with LJP (Ram Vilas) MP and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Arun Bharati, attended the programme. Thousands of Paswan's supporters were also present.
The event comes ahead of the assembly polls, with the LJP (Ram Vilas) stepping up its organisational activities in Uttar Pradesh. The party has also announced plans to contest some seats as part of the NDA arrangement.
Recalling his association with Paswan, Yogi said a young leader emerged in Bihar politics around five decades ago and became a powerful voice for Dalits and the deprived. He noted that Paswan was elected to Parliament with a record number of votes, which he said reflected the people's trust in him.
Yogi said he had the opportunity to work with Paswan in Parliament for a long period and recalled his respect for Indian traditions and his commitment to securing justice, dignity and representation for the underprivileged.
The Chief Minister said Paswan continued his fight for social justice without discrimination and, as a union Minister in the governments led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remained known for his simple, affectionate and approachable nature. Yogi said Paswan always worked to ensure justice for the Dalits and underprivileged, and to ensure their respect and a proper place in mainstream society.
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the Bihar government for organizing Ram Vilas Paswan's death anniversary as a national event in Bihar. He also thanked union Minister Chirag Paswan for organizing the event in Uttar Pradesh.
Yogi said that the same respect that Ram Vilas Paswan received in Bihar will be accorded to him in Uttar Pradesh. He said that Ram Vilas Paswan's absence is certainly felt, but it is a matter of satisfaction that Chirag Paswan is continuously working to carry forward his mission.
He said Paswan's legacy would receive the same respect in Uttar Pradesh as in Bihar. While his absence continues to be felt, Yogi said it was a matter of satisfaction that Chirag Paswan was working to carry forward his father's mission.
The Chief Minister also said Chirag Paswan, as a central Minister in the Modi government, is continuing to raise issues concerning the social concerns and aspirations championed by his father.
