Ramesh escalates ECINet attack, questions ERO powers and legal compliance

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh on Friday sharpened his attack on the Election Commission of India over the functioning of its ECINet platform, alleging that the system has curtailed the statutory powers of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and demanding accountability for what he described as violations of electoral laws.
In a post on social media platform X, Ramesh targeted the Election Commission’s September 26 press note announcing the constitution of a committee to examine whether ECINet complies with the relevant Acts and Rules.
Describing the move as “damage control but actually damage enhancing”, he questioned why the legal compliance of the platform had to be examined after it had already been launched and put into use.
