New Delhi, June 17 (UNI) The Supreme Court has granted anticipatory bail to Inalo Zhimomi, the former principal district and sessions judge of Dimapur, Nagaland, in a case involving alleged embezzlement of bail surety funds.
The relief was granted by a bench comprising justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan on June 16, with the condition that Zhimomi must cooperate with the ongoing investigation until the Gauhati High Court delivers its final decision in the matter.
The prosecution has accused Zhimomi of misappropriating Rs 14.35 lakh from cash bails submitted by accused persons across 28 pending criminal cases. The discrepancy was reportedly discovered in the official bail register for the year 2024.
Following these findings, the current principal district judge of Dimapur, acting under directions from the High Court, lodged a formal complaint, leading to the registration of an FIR.
The case has been filed under Sections 316(4), 316(5), 377, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
