Mumbai, Jun 17 (UNI) BSE Sensex on Tuesday declined by 212.85 points to close at 81,583.30 tracking negative cues from Global peers , amid rising geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE), too, fell by 93.10 points to settle at 24,853.40.
The Sensex opened marginally higher at 81,869.47 against its previous close of 81,796.15 and rose to an intraday high of 81,890.15 ,it recorded the day low off 81,427.01.
The NSE registered a day's high at 24,982.05 and a day's low at 24,813.70.
Mid-cap fell by 0.56 pc and the small-cap declined by 0.67 pc.
The market breadth was weak . On the BSE as 1,501 share rose and 2,477 shares fell. A total of 140 shares were unchanged.
Barring IT and Tech -- all which were up by 0.64 pc and 0.47 pc respectively -- all other Sectoral indices ended the session in red with healthcare being the top sectoral loser.
Other losers were commodities by 0.86 pc, energy by 0.73 pc, FMCG by 0.31 pc, financial by 0.43 pc, industrial by 0.26 pc, telecom by 0.23 pc, utilities by 0.63 pc, auto by 0.56 pc, bankex by 0.26 pc, capital goods by 0.22 pc, consumer durables by 0.63 pc, metal by 1.29 pc, oil & gas by 0.92 pc, power 0.26 pc and realty by 0.64 pc.
In 30 scrips, 9 advanced while 21 declined. Top five losers were, Sun Pharma by 2.28 pc to Rs 1,648.85, Eternal by 2 pc to Rs 247.10, Tata Motors by 1.70 pc to Rs 675.00, Bajaj Finance by 1.58 pc and Indus Bank by 1.40 pc to Rs 809.60.
Top five gainers were Tech Mahindra by 1.71 pc to Rs 1,723, Asian Paints by 0.93 pc to Rs 2,264,50, Infosys by 0.92 pc to Rs 1.638.70, Mayti by 0.60 pc to Rs 12,609.90 and TCS by 0.46 pc to Rs 3,511.35.
European stocks declined on Tuesday as investors assessed the Israel-Iran conflict, following US President Donald Trump’s call for everyone to immediately evacuate Tehran. The President subsequently left the Group of Seven summit a day early due to the Middle East crisis.
Asian shares ended mixed as investors kept a close watch on the simmering Israel-Iran tensions.
Back in the US, Wall Street closed in the green overnight. Hopes for a de-escalation in the Middle East boosted sentiment, with the Dow Jones climbing 0.75 pc, the S&P 500 gaining 0.94 pc, and the Nasdaq leading the rally with a 1.52 pc jump.
On the corporate front, Roku shares popped after the company unveiled a new exclusive partnership with Amazon Ads.
