Mumbai, Apr 26 (UNI) The equity market remained on top during the week ended on Friday, as the BSE Sensex rallied 659.33 points to settle at 79,212.53 driven by mixed global cues.
The NSE Nifty too advanced 187.7 points to close at 24,039.35.
First three sessions of the week were seen strong on corporate earnings reports. However, sentiment turned negative in the last two days as geopolitical tensions, particularly following a deadly terrorist attack in Kashmir, weighed on investor confidence.
The BSE Mid-Cap index surged 1.30 per cent to close at 42,528.71. The BSE Small-Cap index added 0,12 per cent to end at 48,005.62.
On Monday, the Sensex surged 855.30 points to end at 79,408.50 and Nifty settled at 24,125.55 with a gain of 273.90 points supported by strong Q4 earnings from key private sector lenders.
On Tuesday, the Sensex added gains of 187.09 points to settle at 79,595.59 and Nifty gained 41.70 points to settle at 24,167.25. Very next day the BSE sensex advanced 520.90 points to 80,116.49.
While , the Nifty 50 too rose 161.70 points to 24,328.95 riding the wave of buoyant global sentiment.
On Thursday, breaking a seven-session winning streak Sensex dropped 315.06 points to 79,801.43. Nifty too lost 82.25 points to settle at 24,246.70 as global cues and geopolitical tensions weighed on investor sentiment.
On Friday, the BSE sensex lost another 588.90 points to 79,212.53. Nifty 50 lost 207.35 points to close 24,039.35 as investor sentiment remained cautious amid rising geopolitical tensions.
During the week, following scrips were shined, as HCL Technologies surged 9.82 percent Infosys advanced 4.22 percent. HDFC Bank rose 0.19 percent, HDFC Asset Management Company rallied 4.44 per cent. Jio Financial Services (JFSL) gained 2.65 percent.
Similarly, the Tech Mahindra soared 11.91 percent.
While, scrips that were slipped, as
ICICI Bank shed 0.14 percent , Yes Bank declined 1.71 percent ,Hindustan Unilever (HUL) slipped 1.81 percent, Maruti Suzuki India shed 0.04 percent Axis Bank declined 2.12 percent.
