Silicon valley-based FarmX eyes Odisha for high-tech agriculture manufacturing hub

Bhubaneswar, Sep 27 (UNI) Silicon Valley-based high-technology firm FarmX has proposed an investment of Rs 1,000 crore in Odisha to establish an advanced manufacturing and export hub for autonomous electric tractors, artificial intelligence (AI) software, robotics and intelligent farming systems.
A FarmX delegation, led by Chief Operating Officer Premal Ashar and Head of AI Lalit Bhatt, discussed the proposal with Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, officials of the Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy departments, and Additional Chief Secretary, E&IT, Vishal Kumar Dev.
The proposed project will include a state-of-the-art manufacturing campus and a smart precision farming initiative. It is expected to generate up to 1,120 direct and 3,700 indirect jobs in specialised technology sectors.
The facility is planned to have an annual production capacity of 1,000 autonomous electric tractors and one lakh field-sensing units for domestic and international markets.
FarmX also plans to deploy its open-architecture FarmMap platform in Odisha, integrating satellite imagery, OSMO soil-moisture sensors and an Odia-language mobile application to provide real-time farm intelligence and automated irrigation.
The system is designed to optimise the use of water, fertilisers and pesticides while improving farm productivity.
Singh Deo said Odisha was seeking to attract global innovators in AI, semiconductors and electric mobility to create high-skilled employment opportunities and accelerate technology adoption in agriculture.
The investment proposal is currently under discussion with the state government.UNI MK AAB
