Singareni workers to get Rs 1.54 lakh profit share, contract staff Rs 5,500 bonus

Hyderabad, Oct 13 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Tuesday announced a 34 per cent profit share for Singareni employees, with each of the 38,737 permanent workers receiving an average of Rs 1,53,912 for Dasara.
Another 29,717 contract workers will receive Rs 5,500 each. The company earned a net profit of Rs 1,754 crore, of which Rs 596 crore will be distributed among workers.
Addressing a press conference at Praja Bhavan along with IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, Bhatti announced several welfare measures, including a housing scheme named ‘Nehru Housing Colonies’ to fulfil workers’ dream of owning homes. Pending dependent employment cases will be resolved within 15 days, while long-pending discrepancies in workers’ names will be examined on humanitarian grounds.
The government will offer a one-time option for eligible workers dismissed during the COVID-19 pandemic to rejoin service. Medical boards will conduct examinations at Singareni area hospitals to spare workers trips to Kothagudem.
Other measures include upgrading hospitals with specialist doctors and cardiac care facilities, free cancer screening in villages across Singareni areas, safety kits every six months and payment of income tax on workers’ perks and allowances by the company.
Bhatti also announced plans to improve drinking water facilities, install solar panels on government buildings, upgrade educational institutions and provide infrastructure support to government junior colleges. The government will examine the establishment of an agricultural research centre in Bhupalpally and reiterated its commitment to setting up a thermal power plant at Ramagundam.
Explaining the decline in profits, Bhatti blamed the previous BRS government for failing to secure additional coal blocks and said the Congress government was pursuing new blocks and rationalising coal prices to strengthen Singareni’s financial position.
He also said steps were being taken to clear outstanding dues owed to Singareni by power utilities in phases.
Sridhar Babu criticised the BRS for organising protests over workers’ issues, alleging that it had failed to resolve long-pending grievances during its ten-year tenure.
He said the Congress government was committed to protecting permanent and contract workers and strengthening Singareni through welfare measures and skill development initiatives.
