SP could field 3rd candidate in RS polls as several BJP MLAs in touch with us: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow, Sep 30 (UNI) Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav, while defending fielding an industrialist from his party in the Rajya Sabha polls, hinted that there could be more surprises and the party could field a 3rd candidate
He said that in a democracy, decisions should be made based on numerical strength. Whoever has the most votes should get the chance. The decision on the third candidate will be made public once the vote count is complete.
"I have asked the MLAs to take revenge this time against what happened in the 2024 RS polls when our official candidate lost due to cross-voting by our legislators," he said while claiming that several BJP MLAs were in touch with him as they fear not getting a ticket in the assembly polls.
"But I am not too keen on them as it would be difficult to accommodate them. We don't want to make false promises to anyone and then break them."
Yadav, was speaking to reporters at the party office in Lucknow on Wednesday, after 2 candidates for the Rajya Sabha, Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav and industrialist Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, filed their nominations for the biennial Rajya Sabha polls.
The SP president also responded to questions raised about the decision to nominate industrialist Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani as a Rajya Sabha candidate.
He said, "We have the opportunity to send a new generation and a new thinking person to the Rajya Sabha. The industry is dominated by many parties, but many industrialists work tirelessly for society."
Now our party also has an industrialist who can support us in the expansion of industry in the state when SP comes to power, he added.
When questioned that SP always opposed industrialists, he said, " Dr Ram Manohar Lohia always advocated for equality in society. There is no state that does not invite industrialists. Only when industry grows in the state will incomes increase, and that will lead to equality."
Taking a double aim at the BJP's new office and issues related to CEC Gyanesh Kumar, SP President said, "Why did the BJP need to build such a large office? They could have rented a floor in the Election Commission (ECI) office. The Election Commission was involved in a vote scam in the 2022 elections."
Referring to the Supreme Court's Rs 10 lakh fine imposed in the Sambhal violence case, he said that in the past 10 years, the High Court and the Supreme Court have repeatedly questioned the UP Police. Encounters are being carried out wearing slippers. To cover up one mistake, another false encounter is carried out.
Yadav said that in 10 years, this government failed to provide even a single power plant to farmers. This time, the people of the state are going to remove the "fake Yogi" from power.
Taking a dig at the BJP, he said that a USD 1 trillion economy cannot be built only through 'offering and theft'; it requires a solid vision.
Responding to a question about former BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh saying with Akhilesh, Congress has no future in UP, the SP chief said, "I have a very good relationship with him. We are all united on the issue of Uttar Pradesh's development."
Referring to former IAS officer Divya Mittal, Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at her, saying, "Now she too will have to decide whether to wear a green or red scarf." Akhilesh Yadav reiterated that this time in Rae Bareli, it will be a "Lodhi versus Yogi" contest.
Yadav announced that, "If the SP forms the government in 2027, farmers will be provided with free irrigation, sugarcane payments within 24 to 48 hours, and cheap electricity. This time, the SP's performance in western UP will be historic. Those who won in 2022 also won with SP votes."
He also recalled the contributions of Chaudhary Charan Singh and Mahendra Singh Tikait. He said, "Green represents our farmer brothers, and red represents socialists. When these two colours unite, the SP's colour will be visible throughout the state." UNI MBD SAS
