Sri Lanka crush Bangladesh by 77 runs in first ODI

Colombo, July 2 (UNI) Sri Lanka kicked off their ODI series against Bangladesh with a commanding 77-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium here today, with skipper Charith Asalanka leading the charge with a match-winning 106.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka posted a competitive 244 all out in 49.2 overs. Asalanka anchored the innings with a responsible 106 off 123 balls, striking six boundaries and two sixes.
Kusal Mendis added 45 while Janith Liyanage contributed 29 to steady the middle order. Bangladesh’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Tanzim Hasan Sakib (3/46) and Taskin Ahmed (4/47), who regularly chipped away at the Sri Lankan lineup.
Bangladesh’s chase faltered under disciplined bowling from the hosts, with the visitors crumbling to 167 all out in just 35.5 overs.
Tanzid Hasan top-scored with 62, while Jaker Ali scored 51. Najmul Hossain Shanto (23) offered brief resistance before being run out. Wanindu Hasaranga was the chief destroyer, claiming 4 wickets for just 10 runs in 7.5 overs, while Kamindu Mendis took 3 for 19.
Sri Lanka now lead the three-match ODI series 1-0. The second ODI is scheduled for July 5 at the same venue. UNI BDN SSP
