Stalin, Thangam Thennarasu flays TVK govt on sliding economy front

Chennai, Nov 2 (UNI) Opposition DMK President M.K.Stalin and former Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu on Monday flayed the ruling TVK headed by Vijay for the sliding economy, including declining GST revenue growth which has went down below the National average of 22.9%, while claiming that big ticket Korean investment to the tune of Rs 1,1614 crore, which were to come to Tamil Nadu, has gone to Andhra Pradesh due to the negligence of the government burying the state's development.

Citing improper fiscal management and administrative failures, he said the GST revenue growth dips below the national average and Tamil Nadu's growth has been buried under the TVK rule.
Guidance Tamil Nadu, which was entrusted with the task of attracting investments, has been sacrificed for some individuals personal ego as Korean investments worth Rs 1,614 crore that were supposed to come to Tamil Nadu have gone to Andhra Pradesh due to the government's negligence.
"We should learn from them how to go into reverse gear so quickly in all fields", Stalin wrote on X .
"Our Chief Minister, who doesn't understand or know what all this is about , has embarked on holding road shows by waving his hands to the people in the constituencies where by-elections are to be held.
"Brace for tough times. Tamil Nadu is doomed under the TVK government", he alleged.
Meanwhile, Thennarasu said it was concerning that Tamil Nadu, once among India’s leading states in economic growth, continues to witness a decline under the TVK government.
In October’s GST revenue, neighbouring states recorded double digit growth, with Kerala at 23%, Andhra Pradesh at 24%, Karnataka at 18%, and Telangana at 14%, while Tamil Nadu lagged behind with just 3% growth, he said in a statement.
"Although taxes collected on certain key goods imported into Tamil Nadu have contributed to a modest increase in the state’s overall tax revenue, revenue generated from our own production continues to decline", he said and pointed out to the TVK government that this must be viewed as an indicator of the broader economic stagnation prevailing in the state.
He also urged the TVK government to take immediate steps to increase domestic production and expand sales to other states and overseas markets, instead of relying solely on revenue from imported goods. This is essential to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s overall economy and create more employment opportunities for our young people, he added.
