Jammu, May 24 (UNI) Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday said that he firmly stands with the families affected due to the cross-border shelling in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Gandhi was on a day-long visit to the bordering Poonch district and met with the families and civilians affected due to the shelling.
"I stand firmly with the affected families and will definitely raise their demands and issues at the national level," Gandhi posted on X.
Asserting that met the families of those who lost their lives in Pakistan shelling in Poonch, Gandhi further posted, "broken houses, scattered belongings, moist eyes and painful stories of losing loved ones in every corner. These patriotic families bear the biggest burden of war with courage and dignity every time. Salute to their courage."
Gandhi also visited a school and interacted with the students, asking them to be bold, as everything would soon be normal.
"You have seen a tough time. Don't worry, everything will soon return to normal," he told students.
Gandhi also visited the Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara in Poonch, which was affected by the cross-border shelling.
On the intervening night of May 6-7, Pakistani forces had resorted to shelling on civilian areas of Poonch district, and Poonch town bore the brunt of the heavy shelling.
A total of 13 people lost their lives in the district, and several others were injured.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had already announced jobs to the next of kin of those killed, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah earlier had announced ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to families who have lost their loved ones.
