Stop irregularities in paddy purchase or face farmers' wrath: Vikram Kasana

Dhand, Oct 19 (UNI) Farmers, under the leadership of Advocate Vikram Kasana, youth state president of Bharatiya Kisan union Chaduni, today locked the gate of the Market Committee office to protest against the lack of smooth procurement of paddy in Dhand grain market, delay in lifting and low prices for farmers.
Adv Kasana issued an ultimatum to the administration warning that if the problem of paddy procurement, lifting and crop lying outside the market is not resolved within two days time, then the farmers will stop the trolleys at Panchmukhi Chowk and dump the paddy and will be forced to block the road.
Farmers expressed their anger, alleging that paddy with 17 per cent moisture was being purchased for about Rs 2,200 per quintal.
Addressing the protesting farmers, the farmer leader alleged that the farmers have been sitting in the mandis for many days with the paddy crop, but the system of procurement and lifting is not working smoothly. The paddy crop lying on the roads outside the market is also waiting for purchase for the last 15 days. As a result, the situation is such that farmers are forced to guard their crops and protect them from getting spoiled.
He alleged that instead of solving the problems of the farmers, the government and administration are leaving them to suffer in the mandis. He demanded that the alleged irregularities in the purchase of paddy and the issue of farmers not getting fair prices should be seriously investigated.
Adv Kasana further demanded that the administration will have to find a permanent solution to the problems of the farmers, saying it is the responsibility of the administration to provide fair prices to the farmers, ensure transparency in the procurement process and timely lifting of paddy from the mandis.
He warned that if the system does not improve in two days, the farmers will intensify their agitation for their rights.
On this occasion, many farmers including Gurnam Faral, Vikram Dussain, Pirthi Kaul, Randhir Barsana, Bahadur Gaursi, Rampal Mundri, Sunil Golan, Satpal Pundri, Gurmukh Faral, Deepa Dussain, Omprakash Barsana, Prem Gaursi, Bhim Khanuda were present.
