Surjewala seeks action over illegal mining, threats to farmers in Yamunanagar

Yamunanagar, Oct 29 (UNI) Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has demanded accountability from the Haryana government over alleged illegal mining in Yamunanagar, claiming that farmers opposing excavation on their own land faced assaults and death threats.
In a post on X, Surjewala referred to Belgarh and other locations in the district and accused the BJP government of ignoring complaints while allowing illegal mining operators a free hand.
“The Haryana government must be held accountable for alleged illegal mining in Belgarh and other places in Yamunanagar,” he wrote.
Surjewala alleged that continued illegal excavation was damaging the Yamuna and that appeals to the authorities had failed to bring relief. He claimed farmers attempting to stop mining on their own fields were being intimidated and assaulted.
Directing his criticism at Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s administration, the Congress leader questioned whether officials were aware of the alleged activities and when enforcement action would follow.
“Does the administration know what is happening? If illegal mining is taking place, when will action be taken?” he asked.
Surjewala accused the government of allowing the exploitation of natural resources and demanded answers over its handling of the complaints.UNI KK AAB
