Suruchi, Kamaljeet Fire India to Second Gold With Asian Record

Aichi-Nagoya, Sep 25 (UNI) — Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet delivered India’s second gold medal at the Asian Games here on Friday, combining precision and composure to win the mixed team 10m air pistol title with a new Asian record of 484.6 points.
The Indian pair, who had topped qualification with 587-29x, carried their form into the final and led for most of the contest before holding off a late challenge from the Republic of Korea to win by 6.6 points.
The Korean pair settled for silver with 478.0 points, while Iran claimed bronze with 415.8 points.
The triumph ended India’s wait for a shooting gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Games and added another highlight to a campaign in which the shooters had already collected several medals.
Suruchi and Kamaljeet made the most of their opportunity after neither could make the individual final, producing their best when the mixed team title was at stake.
Their winning score also surpassed the previous Asian record of 481.3 by 3.3 points, underlining the quality of their performance on the Games stage.
India’s gold tally now stands at two, with the women’s cricket team having secured the other title.
For the Indian shooting contingent, the victory provided a significant lift after a string of silver and bronze medals and reinforced its medal-winning consistency across events.
The Indian duo had entered the final after dominating qualification, posting series of 196, 195 and 196 to finish at the top of the four-team field.
They maintained their advantage under pressure in the final and kept the Korean challenge at bay in the closing stages to seal the Asian Games title in record-breaking fashion.
