Mumbai, Apr 27 (UNI) A power-packed batting display, led by Ryan Rickelton's explosive fifty and late fireworks from Naman Dhir and Corbin Bosch, propelled Mumbai Indians (MI) to a formidable 215 for 7 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match at the Wankhede Stadium here on Sunday.
Asked to bat first after LSG won the toss, MI got off to a blazing start with Rohit Sharma hammering two sixes before falling for 12 (5 balls) to Mayank Yadav, who struck early with a slower short ball. Rickelton carried on the momentum, notching up a superb 58 off 32 deliveries, including six fours and four sixes, before slicing a catch to backward point off Digvesh Singh Rathi.
Will Jacks (29) and Suryakumar Yadav (54 off 28 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes) kept the scoreboard racing, with Suryakumar showcasing his full range of audacious strokes, including a remarkable sweep-scoop for six off Prince Yadav while down on one knee. However, regular breakthroughs pegged MI back in the middle overs.
Hardik Pandya was bowled by Mayank for a sluggish 5, and Tilak Varma holed out off Ravi Bishnoi for 6. Suryakumar’s blistering knock ended when he drilled a catch to Mitchell Marsh at extra cover off Avesh Khan, even as the spectators rose to applaud his late-innings acceleration.
The final flourish came courtesy of debutant Bosch and Dhir. Bosch smashed a six and two fours in a 10-ball 20 before holing out to Pooran at long-on off Avesh Khan.
In the closing moments, Dhir exhibited splendid composure, scooping a full toss from Avesh into the stands to finish unbeaten on 25 off 11 balls, steering MI past the 210-run mark.
For LSG, Mayank (2/40) and Avesh Khan (2/42) were among the wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi and Prince Yadav chipped in with crucial breakthroughs. However, the LSG bowlers struggled to contain the flow of boundaries, with MI hammering 17 fours and 15 sixes in total.
The powerplay set the tone with 66 runs in the first six overs, and despite a few stumbles, Mumbai batting firepower ensured a challenging target for the visitors.
