Telangana: Bandi Sanjay slams Congress for 'Double Standards' on Naxals

Hyderabad, May 5 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of adopting "double standards" by calling for talks with Naxals after having previously imposed a ban on them.

Speaking to media during a brief stopover at NTPC, Ramagundam, while en route from Kagaznagar to Karimnagar, Bandi Sanjay said, “It is shocking and painful to see innocent people being killed by Naxals, yet some voices are now advocating negotiations with them. The Congress party banned them once, and now they want dialogue? That’s the height of hypocrisy,” he said.

The minister urged civil rights leaders such as Professor Haragopal and Varavara Rao to first convince the Naxals to renounce violence and surrender. “What has Varavara Rao really achieved after all these decades of bloodshed?” he questioned.

Bandi Sanjay recalled numerous instances of Naxal violence in the past—attacks on police personnel, journalists, BJP leaders, and even Congress MLAs like Chittem Narsi Reddy and Ragyanayak.

“Have we forgotten the assassination attempt on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Alipiri? (2003) Or the killing of Sama Jaganmohan Reddy just for hoisting the national flag?” he asked.

He said the Naxals had not even spared the police, citing the murder of an SI and a constable during a wedding in Mahamutharam.

“They have killed tribals, labelled them as informers, and planted bombs. Do former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy support this madness?” he added.

Criticising Revanth Reddy’s remarks that the issue should be viewed from a "social perspective," Sanjay claimed it was further proof of Congress’s duplicity. He stated categorically that the BJP-led Central Government has no intention of negotiating with Naxals.

“Drop the gun, surrender to the police, and change your mindset—only then can we talk about reintegration into society,” he declared.

Addressing the Congress's recent claims that the Centre has not contributed to Telangana’s development, Sanjay presented a detailed account of the financial support extended by the Narendra Modi government. “In the last 10 years, over Rs 12 lakh crore has been spent for Telangana’s development. This includes Rs 1.25 lakh crore on national highways and Rs 32,000 crore on railways. Yet, Congress falsely claims we haven’t given a rupee,” he said.

He also criticised the state government’s so-called caste census, labelling it a "bogus survey" that failed to reach even 50 per cent of households.

“They cheated BCs by reducing their population figures and allocating part of the reservation to Muslims. The Modi government will conduct a real caste census—door to door, like the national census—and will correct this injustice,” he said.

Bandi Sanjay reiterated that the Centre remains firm on national security, committed to development, and determined to uphold law and order without yielding to threats or violence.
