Telangana Govt celebrates Saddula Bathukamma grandly at Tank Bund

Hyderabad, Oct 18 (UNI) The Telangana government organised grand celebrations of Saddula Bathukamma, the concluding day of the nine-day floral festival, at Tank Bund in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Around 1,000 Bathukammas were taken in a procession from the Martyrs’ Memorial to Tank Bund, where women participated in traditional dances and festivities. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and his wife Janaki, Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Seethakka, film actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, and several other dignitaries attended the celebrations.
Around 700 folk artists showcased traditional art forms, including Perini, Gussadi, Oggu Dolu and Dappu. The venue was decorated with elaborate lighting and LED screens, while a laser show, fireworks and Bathukamma immersion formed part of the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla described Bathukamma as a symbol of Telangana’s cultural heritage, women’s empowerment and reverence for nature. He urged people to conserve water, promote rainwater harvesting and protect natural resources in view of concerns over reduced rainfall and the possible impact of El Niño.
Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said Bathukamma transcended caste and religious barriers and reflected Telangana’s cultural identity. He stressed the need to preserve folk arts, promote local artists and pass the State’s traditions on to future generations.
Minister Seethakka said Bathukamma represented the close relationship between women, nature and community life. She called for the preservation of ponds and farmlands and emphasised the government’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment.
The celebrations marked the culmination of the State-wide Bathukamma festivities, showcasing Telangana’s floral traditions, folk arts and cultural heritage.
