Telangana: Govt seeks Centre’s permission to utilise 1500 TMC water from Godavari, Krishna rivers

Hyderabad/ New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) The Telangana government on Thursday sought the Union government’s permission to utilize 1500 TMC of water from Godavari and Krisha rivers.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Irrigation minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, during a meeting with the Union Minister, Secretary of the Union ministry Debashree Mukherjee and other senior officials at Shramshakti Bhavan in the national capital, requested C R Patil, the JalShakti Ministry and Andhra Pradesh government to issue a ‘no objection certificate (NOC)’ for Telangana to utilize 1,000 TMC of water from Godavari river and 500 TMC of Krishna river, a total of 1500 TMC, with the approval of the Union government.
Stating that 1,500 TMC of water will provide irrigation to 1.50 crore acres in Telangana, the Chief Minister said his government will not oppose the AP projects if Telangana's demands are met first.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy brought to the attention of the Union minister that Centre was granting permissions to the projects taken up by the Andhra Pradesh government expeditiously and neglected the Telangana projects.
The Centre’s approach in granting permissions is creating misunderstandings and conflict between the two states. Hence, the CM appealed to the Union Minister to immediately grant all permissions along with water allocations to the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy, Sammakka-Sarakka and Thummidihetti projects.
Allocation of central funds to the Musi rejuvenation project was also discussed in the meeting. The CM appealed to Patil to consider the state government’s request for funds and release them like the Centre supported Ganga and Yamuna cleaning projects.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Uttam said that the Union minister assured that an Apex Council meeting would be held soon.
MPs Mallu Ravi, Raghuveer Reddy and the state government's special representative in Delhi AP Jitender Reddy, State Government Advisor (Irrigation) Adityanath Das, Chief Minister's Secretary Manik Raj, State Irrigation Special Secretary Prashant Jeevan Patil, Centrally Sponsored Projects Coordination Secretary Dr. Gaurav Uppal and others are present.
