Three members of a family found hanging inside their flat in Kolkata

Kolkata, June 18 (UNI) An elderly couple and their specially abled son were found hanging in their flat in south Kolkata and the police suspect a suicide case as the family was having financial hurdles.

Head of the family Sarajit Bhattacharya (70) , his wife Gargi Bhattacharya (68) and their specially abled son Ayusman Bhattacharya (38) were found hanged on Tuesday night, police said.

While Sarajit was found hanging from the ceiling fan by a rope in a room, the other two were found in a similar state in another room. The police had to break open the flat at Rajdanga in Kasba, south Kolkata after the neighbours complained that they received no response to several knocks on the main door.

The neighbours told the investigation officers that they saw the family members in the morning and later heard heated exchange of words from inside.

The police came to know that the family was having financial trouble as the owner was an assistant of a promoter and they had a specially abled son.

The house was locked from inside and the police broke open the wooden door in the presence of the local people.

The victims were staying in a rented flat for the past seven years.

Police said the preliminary findings indicated suicide, but further investigation was on.

State minister Javed Khan, who visited the flat, said the police found a suicide note in the room.
