TPSODL mobilises 6,474 personnel, strengthens emergency readiness for Cyclone Arnab in Southern Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26 (UNI) Stepping up its preparedness to tackle the possible impact of Cyclone Arnab, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has mobilised a comprehensive emergency response network, with 6,474 personnel included in its division-wise deployment plan, 800 skilled and unskilled project personnel and another 400 personnel kept on standby for immediate deployment across southern Odisha.
The power distribution company has strengthened its emergency arrangements to safeguard consumers, protect critical electricity infrastructure and ensure the swift restoration of power supply in the event of cyclone-related disruptions.
Commenting on the preparedness measures, TPSODL Chief Executive Officer Amit Kumar Garg said, “Our priority is the safety of our consumers and employees and the protection of critical power infrastructure.”
He said the company had strengthened its readiness through the deployment of manpower, the stocking of essential materials, the availability of emergency equipment and the establishment of round-the-clock monitoring arrangements.
“Our teams will coordinate with the concerned authorities and respond promptly to disruptions, with restoration undertaken as soon as conditions are safe,” Garg said, urging people to follow official advisories and exercise caution around electrical installations during heavy rain and strong winds.
TPSODL has activated its Business Continuity and Disaster Management Plan, with manpower, emergency materials and response mechanisms organised across its operational areas to facilitate a coordinated response during the cyclone period.
To ensure rapid restoration of electricity supply, the company has kept six mobile distribution substations and 358 vehicles ready for emergency operations. Its reserve inventory includes 32 power transformers and 862 distribution transformers, along with 2,814 km of bare conductors, 516 km of low-tension (LT) aerial-bunched cables and 95 km of high-tension (HT) XLPE cables.
The Central Emergency Control Centre (CECC) at Ambagada in Berhampur will coordinate round-the-clock monitoring and emergency response through the Centralised Power System Control Centre.
In addition, Area Power System Control Centres at Jeypore, Rayagada and Bhanjanagar will oversee local network conditions and coordinate field-level operations. Dedicated control rooms at circle and division levels will remain operational to support emergency response activities.
District-level coordinators will also work closely with the district administration and relevant emergency response agencies to ensure effective communication and coordinated action during the cyclone.
Alongside its operational preparedness, TPSODL has strengthened consumer communication through voice-message alerts, SMS updates, multilingual social media communications and round-the-clock monitoring of consumer complaints.
Digital complaint-booking facilities will remain available to enable consumers to report power interruptions and seek assistance during the emergency.
With extensive manpower deployment, emergency equipment, reserve materials and a multi-level monitoring system in place, TPSODL said it was prepared to respond to potential cyclone-related challenges and restore electricity supply as quickly as safety conditions permit.
