Tripura to introduce cashless medical scheme for road accidents

Agartala, June 24 (UNI) Tripura has announced the launch of Cashless Medical Scheme for Road Accident Victims 2025, aimed at saving lives and providing immediate medical support to road accident victims, said Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury here on Tuesday.
The scheme, to be implemented by the state transport department, ensures prompt medical treatment during the critical “golden hour” following an accident. The initiative will cover emergency medical treatment expenses and offer financial assistance to victims of road accidents.
“Our objective is to ensure that no life is lost due to a lack of timely treatment. The scheme will facilitate immediate hospitalisation of victims, saving precious lives,” Chowdhury said.
He reiterated the government's commitment to valuing every human life and said that the Transport Department is working with this principle at its core. The minister also asserted that the review of existing road safety initiatives and a preparatory discussion on the rollout of the new cashless scheme would be conducted.
Highlighting the importance of public awareness in preventing road accidents, the minister said, “Caution and awareness can drastically reduce road accidents. Our department has already initiated several measures in this direction.”
Apart from that, the department would introduce interceptor vehicles equipped with life support services, implementation of the hit and run scheme, and the Good Samaritan scheme for those assisting accident victims, Chowdhury stated.
"Tripura recorded a 13% decline in road accidents last year, attributing the improvement to coordinated efforts by the Transport and Traffic Departments, the police, and responsible citizens. We are working in tandem with the Government of India to reduce accident rates and save lives,” he added.
