TTD Deploys 3,350 Sanitation Workers for Navaratri Brahmotsavams in Tirumala

Tirumala, Oct 13 (UNI) The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has stepped up sanitation measures during the Srivari Navaratri Brahmotsavams, deploying an additional 750 personnel to maintain hygiene across Tirumala, particularly at public toilets and areas witnessing heavy pilgrim footfall.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, TTD Deputy Executive Officer (Health) Somannarayana said 2,600 sanitation personnel were already on duty, taking the total workforce deployed for the festivities to 3,350.
He said sanitation workers were operating in three shifts to maintain cleanliness at 45 toilets located in the galleries along the four Mada streets.
Tirumala has 230 permanent and 149 temporary toilets, which are used by nearly two lakh pilgrims every day. Standard operating procedures were being strictly followed to ensure continuous cleanliness, he said.
Garbage accumulating along the Mada streets during Vahana Sevas was being cleared regularly and transported to the dumping yard using tippers. To facilitate waste collection across Tirumala, around 6,000 dustbins had been installed at 3,000 locations, he added.
Somannarayana said feedback on toilet hygiene was being collected regularly through Srivari Sevaks, and their suggestions were being considered to improve sanitation facilities.
According to him, more than 98 per cent of devotees had expressed satisfaction with the hygiene and cleanliness maintained in Tirumala.
As part of food safety measures, 60 samples of food and drinking water were being collected daily and sent to laboratories for testing, he said.
A monthly cleaning drive was also being conducted every Tuesday at fast-food centres in Tirumala to maintain hygiene standards, he added.
