Two children drown in a pond in Bhagalpur

Bhagalpur, Sept 17 (UNI) Two children drowned while bathing in a pond in the Kahalgaon police station limits on Thursday evening.
According to Kahalgaon Sub-Divisional Officer Rakesh Ranjan, four children were bathing in a pond near Kawaiya village when they accidentally entered the deep water and began drowning. Hearing the cries of other children, nearby villagers rushed to the spot and, with the help of local divers, rescued two of them. However, the other two children drowned.
The deceased have been identified as Vibhishan Kumar (15) and Manish Kumar (12), residents of Chandni Chowk village under Nandlalpur panchayat.
The bodies were sent to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur for a post-mortem examination.
The administration said the families of the deceased children would receive Rs 4 lakh each as ex-gratia compensation from the Disaster Management Department.
